after last night, I finally believe they will do it.

The alternative only seems to be Spurs

If we had Kante and Lukaku we'd be top of the league.

FACT

I only say that because we could have realistically ended up signing both players. It's not like saying if we'd signed Busquets and Messi we'd be top of the league.

Another thing to note about the player exodus to the Chinese League is that it is merely an exercise in laundering money before their Ponzi style economy comes crashing down...

There is more to it than meets the eye

Blackburn were outsiders?

Really?

Probably less than if you'd bet on Leicester to stay up last xmas then win the league the following year.

& then win it again the season after
1,000,000/1

I wonder what the odds would have been of Forest to win the 1st div after getting promoted and the next year winning the European Cup.... 10000/1 ??

Re: Leicester v Newcastle 1-0
In that era you didn't need to be billionaires to be one of the richest clubs.
Blackburn had Shearer and probably spent more than the 'big clubs'.

Nottingham Forest was an amazing achievement but again the gap between teams in the First Division wasn't that vast. Clough did an amazing job getting the best out of wasted talents like John Robertson, Kenny Burns etc but he DID buy Peter Shilton and the first £1m player Trevor Francis.

In this day and age when other teams have squads costing £300m plus and pay massively different wages to teams at the bottom Leicester winning the league is on a completely different scale.
I cant think of a bigger shock in any team sport anywhere.

It would be the single biggest sporting shock of all time IMO

Re: Leicester v Newcastle 1-0
Blackburn spent millions on players to win the league, and came close to doing so the season before. They were one of the favourites before the season even started.

Leicester winning it will be far more of a shock.

Re: Leicester v Newcastle 1-0
Just speculation Johnson, but with Chinese clubs already having spent big on players like Ramires, Lavezzi, Jackson Martinez, Paulinho, Gervinho, Guarin, Sissoko, Ba etc then I am sure it's common sense to think that they will be followed in the summer by more players looking for a huge pay day.

Marston Hammer 9:36 Tue Mar 15
Re: Leicester v Newcastle 1-0
Far far bigger outsider than Blackburn.

I'd celebrate Leicester winning the league, would be the biggest outsider to win it since Blackburn did.

Re: Leicester v Newcastle 1-0
What players heading to China? Ramires and Jelavic are the only two I've heard of, I can't imagine any current internationals of note fucking off over there.

Players in their twilight years maybe and general mercenaries.

Re: Leicester v Newcastle 1-0
I agree panch, not only will the extra TV money mean clubs have more to spend but the likes of chelsea, man city and man utd with new managers (and playing catch up a bit) will spend big, arsenal really should loosen the purse strings. not to mention clubs cashing in on players heading to china.

Re: Leicester v Newcastle 1-0
I think it would be amazing to see Leicester win it.

Spurs winning it is just unthinkable.

Either way this summer is going to see a LOT of spending and swapping. Think you could see the biggest summer spend ever.

I bet Jim White is getting hard thinking about it.

Re: Leicester v Newcastle 1-0
I still have a sinking feeling that Spurs will snatch it so they need one of their home disasters.
Bournemouth go there on Sunday .... that will do.

FOMB
I agree Leicestershire run looks easier on paper but those four you've mentioned there as spuds toughest have absolutely fuck all to play for at this stage of the season if even argue that if they need to win the barcodes last game would be their toughest
Still let's hope they lose the lot and we finish above them

Newcastle looked transformed...tighter in defence...better in /mf...still lacking up front...but Benitez should keep them up...

The next Toon Mackem game should be interesting...
